Nasty Gallery
Paige Megan Hawley – Photographer, Curator & Activist
Paige Megan Hawley’s creative journey is rooted in resilience, transformation, and the power of art to drive social change. Her work draws deeply from her own lived experience of surviving rape, channelling trauma into a force for awareness, connection, and dialogue.
Her breakthrough project emerged from the concept of "Turning a Negative into a Positive"—a visual metaphor inspired by the photographic development process. Through film photography, she translated complex emotions into striking imagery, capturing raw truth and using the medium as a form of healing.
This body of work grew into multiple exhibitions, sparking Paige’s interest in curation and collaborative platforms. She went on to found Nasty Women London, a grassroots movement championing female and non-binary artists, which evolved into Nasty Gallery—a space dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in the arts.
"Photography is a way of feeling and expressing. Capture the emotion, develop from the negatives, stop the process, move forward by fixing the situation with a piece of art." – Paige Megan Hawley
Through her photography, curation, and activism, Paige continues to inspire both emerging and established creatives, using art as a catalyst for empathy, empowerment, and change.
A New Collaboration for Change
Sheppey Pulse Network and Nasty Gallery have joined forces to create a unique community initiative, using the arts as an alternative form of therapy and expression. This collaboration aims to address and raise awareness of VAWG – Violence Against Women and Girls through creative engagement, storytelling, and visual expression.
By combining Sheppey Pulse Network’s community outreach with Nasty Gallery’s platform for underrepresented artists, the partnership offers safe, empowering spaces where survivors and the wider community can explore healing, share experiences, and foster understanding. Together, they are proving that art is not just a reflection of life, but a tool to transform it.

ROAR- Reach Out And Recover
Advocacy Lead Martin Whitehead
ROAR Kent is a dynamic, grassroots-led community advocacy network dedicated to amplifying the voices of individuals and families affected by mental health challenges, social exclusion, and systemic disadvantage. With a strong presence across Kent, ROAR (Reach Out and Recover) works to ensure that lived experience is not only heard—but central to decision-making, service design, and systemic change.
At the heart of ROAR Kent’s work is a commitment to empowerment through advocacy, peer support, and direct action. The network provides a platform for people with lived experience to co-produce solutions, influence local policy, and hold services accountable to the communities they serve. ROAR promotes trauma-informed practice, equality, and social justice, ensuring that every individual—regardless of background—has access to a safe space where their story matters.
Leading this mission in the Swale area is Martin Whitehead, ROAR’s dedicated Advocacy Lead. With years of personal and professional experience navigating mental health and community support systems, Martin brings deep insight, integrity, and passion to his role. He is a strong advocate for co-production and user-led change, often working alongside statutory and voluntary organisations to drive inclusive, community-based improvements.
Martin is instrumental in facilitating peer-led forums, speaking at public events, and mentoring individuals who are ready to step into advocacy roles themselves. His approach is person-centred, relational, and rooted in the belief that change happens when people feel empowered, supported, and connected.
ROAR Kent continues to build partnerships across health, housing, social care, and the voluntary sector—delivering training, awareness campaigns, and grassroots engagement projects.
