Our Grassroots Origins

Sheppey Pulse Network was established in October 2024 by local resident Niquie Trower in response to a growing need for connection, mutual support, and information sharing within the Isle of Sheppey community. What began as a grassroots Facebook group has since evolved into a trusted community-led initiative, committed to enhancing wellbeing and resilience across Sheppey and the wider Swale district.

In the early stages, Niquie was joined by two committed co-administrators, Fiona Jane Mowatt Sampson and Key Trower. Their combined efforts were instrumental in laying the foundation for the Network’s future growth and impact.

Although Fiona stepped back from the project due to other personal commitments, her contributions remain an essential and valued part of our history. Key Trower continues to serve as a core member of the team, bringing energy, passion, and dedication to our mission and ongoing development.

Acknowledgement and Gratitude

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Fiona for her role in shaping the early direction of Sheppey Pulse Network. Her efforts remain embedded in the values and ethos of the organisation, and we are sincerely grateful for her contributions.

Today, Sheppey Pulse Network operates as a non-profit, non-political organisation, committed to supporting local people through collaborative, compassionate, and community-focused work. While we are not yet a registered charity, we operate in line with Charity Commission standards and UK charity law as we await the outcome of our application for registered charitable status.

We are grateful to everyone who joins us in this work. Your support is vital to our mission of strengthening the Isle of Sheppey, & the wider Swale community, and, where possible, extending our reach to support those in need further afield.

Strengthening Sheppey Pulse Network
Our Journey to Charity status

What We Do...

We organise donation drives for vulnerable residents.

We collaborate with local charities to coordinate aid and reduce duplication.

We share important community updates.

We run community-led events, e.g. Christmas Living Advent Calendar, supported by local businesses and residents.

We maintain a public canva website reflecting our efforts on social media for accessibility and transparency as well as our official charity website- this!

Our canva link is below if you fancy having a look at all our wonderful efforts:
sheppeypulsenetwork.my.canva.site

We will do much more wherever the need!

Our impact has strengthened community bonds, supported Sheppey & Swale's most vulnerable residents, and inspired collective action — creating lasting change through compassion, connection, and local empowerment.Supporting vulnerable, isolated, and disadvantaged individuals

We’ve strengthened community connections by creating a trusted, accessible platform for sharing vital local information, encouraging active involvement, and ensuring every voice — especially the unheard — is included in shaping a stronger, more connected Sheppey and hopefully in the future we can branch out further afield to help more people in Swale.

What are our Next Steps?

Transitioning to registered charity status & aligning with Charity Commission-recognised purposes.is our main goal, we are non registered at present but we are committed to governance, accountability, and transparency.

We are now expanding our reach and formalising our structure to maximise our impact — empowering us to deliver lasting public benefit with purpose, integrity, and long-term vision.

Diversity & Equality Among Our Trustees and Volunteers

At Sheppey Pulse Network, we are proud to champion a diverse and inclusive team of trustees and volunteers. We believe that true community representation comes from including people of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

We welcome individuals regardless of age, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, disability, or lived experience. What matters most is your passion for helping others and your commitment to creating a more connected and compassionate community.

By fostering a culture of equality, respect, and belonging, we ensure that everyone contributing to our mission feels valued, empowered, and supported.

Everyone has something meaningful to offer — and everyone is welcome here.

Inclusion at the Heart of Our Work

At Sheppey Pulse Network, we believe in building a community where everyone is welcomed, valued, and empowered — regardless of background, ability, or life experience. We are proud to be an inclusive organisation that supports people from all walks of life, including those who are neurodiverse.

We recognise that neurodivergent individuals — including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other cognitive variations — bring unique perspectives, talents, and experiences that enrich our community. However, we also understand that these individuals often face barriers to understanding, acceptance, and opportunity.

That’s why part of our mission is not only to welcome neurodivergent individuals but to educate the wider community and local professionals about neurodiversity. We want to foster greater awareness, understanding, and empathy — helping to break down stigma and create safe, accessible spaces for everyone to thrive.

Through our platforms, events, and partnerships, we share lived experiences, promote inclusive practices, and encourage respectful dialogue. Our social media content includes stories, insights, and educational resources — such as our feature on Cosy Gaming and Neurodiversity — that highlight how neurodivergent individuals engage with the world in meaningful and positive ways.

We also warmly welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, including neurodivergent individuals, who wish to contribute their time, skills, and perspectives. Whether you're looking to make connections, gain experience, or give back to your community, we provide a supportive environment where everyone has something valuable to offer.

At Sheppey Pulse Network, inclusion is not an afterthought — it is central to everything we do.

At Sheppey Pulse Network, we stand in Solidarity with every mind, drive Progress through understanding, and build a Neighbourhood where everyone belongs.

Hi, I'm Niquie

Highly motivated volunteer

Niquie Trower, I am a dedicated community advocate and proud mother of two adult children, one of whom is neurodiverse. My professional background lies in the care sector, where I developed a deep understanding of the importance of compassion, inclusivity, and tailored support. While my career path shifted due to the demands of motherhood and later the onset of chronic illness, I have continued to apply my experience and insight through meaningful community engagement.

Living with chronic pain has presented its challenges, but being actively involved in local initiatives has become an empowering part of my journey. Community work not only helps me manage my health more positively but also allows me to contribute to something greater — creating real, lasting impact in the lives of others.

With strong communication skills and a genuine passion for connecting people, I work to build trusted relationships among residents. I am especially committed to ensuring everyone has access to the right information, support, and opportunities. This open and approachable style allows me to recognise unmet needs within the community and help respond to them in a practical and compassionate way.

As the founder of Sheppey Pulse Network, I am deeply committed to improving well-being across our island and the Swale region. This charity was born from a vision of bridging gaps in support — not only for individuals seeking advice, a listening ear, or direct help, but also for smaller charities and groups that may struggle to reach those who need them most. Whether it's through tailored workshops, signposting to local services, organising inclusive events, or initiating collaborative fundraising efforts, Sheppey Pulse Network aims to be a central, accessible hub for all.

Our charity is built on the principles of inclusion, respect, and empowerment. Please feel free to reach out at any time — even if it's just for advice. If we don’t have the answer, we’ll make it our priority to help find one. We are here for everyone, and we truly welcome you all.

Hi I'm Sam

Highly qualified and motivated professional in IT Networking & Digital Media

Sam Trower, 25 years old qualified in I.T & Digital Media.
I’m currently a full-time carer for my parent, which limits my ability to take on regular employment — one of the reasons I’m proud to contribute my time and skills to the charity. You could say it’s a bit of a family affair!

I’m naturally quite quiet and prefer to support from behind the scenes, especially as I find social settings a bit challenging. With my background in IT and digital media, I enjoy helping with digital admin, tech support, and any behind-the-scenes tasks that help keep things running smoothly.

I’m also a passionate PC gamer, which helps me stay connected with friends — especially since my family and I relocated from Edinburgh to Swale two years ago. In my downtime, I love reading, especially history, and I’m always looking to learn something new.

Sheppey Pulse Network is a fantastic initiative — not only offering residents a space to seek advice, help, or simply a friendly chat, but also providing crucial support to smaller charities that may struggle to find their footing in the community. I truly believe this charity has the potential to bridge the gap and create a stronger, more connected local network.

Volunteering with Sheppey Pulse Network gives me a chance to give back, stay active, and be part of something that’s making a real difference.

Hi I'm Aisha

Highly qualified and motivated professional

Aisha Cuthbert
Mum to two beautiful children and a former Team GB athlete, I’ve always believed in the power of community, perseverance, and purpose. My passion for youth athletics stems not only from my background in sport but also from a deep-rooted belief that young people thrive when given the right guidance, opportunities, and encouragement.

I joined the Sheppey Pulse Network because I truly believe in what it stands for — a central hub where individuals and families can access advice, support, and simply feel heard. What makes it even more special is how it supports smaller charities that might otherwise struggle to gain visibility or traction in the local area. It’s a bridge between services, people, and much-needed community connection — and that’s something I wanted to be part of.

In addition to my work with young people, I also have a strong commitment to supporting pensioners and addressing issues such as loneliness and social isolation, which affect too many in our society. Whether it's through outreach, conversation, or community events, I’m passionate about bringing people together across all generations.

I bring to the Sheppey Pulse team a combination of drive, discipline, and real-world experience. My years as an athlete taught me resilience, teamwork, and how to stay focused on long-term goals — skills I now apply to helping improve lives across the community. I also bring strong communication skills, a deep understanding of how to engage and motivate others, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

I’ve recently been kindly asked to consider becoming a trustee for the charity — a role I’m currently reflecting on seriously and with gratitude. It’s an exciting opportunity to further contribute to shaping the direction and impact of the organisation.

I look forward to continuing to support Sheppey Pulse and working alongside others who are just as passionate about creating a stronger, more inclusive community for everyone.

Hi I'm Dianne

Highly motivated professional volunteer

Dianne Still, I’m a former accountant with over 20 years of experience. I left the corporate world 12 years ago to focus on my family and reconnect with what truly matters—people and community. I’m a proud mum of three amazing young ladies. My eldest is a fourth-year medical student at UCL, and my younger two are students at Leigh Academy.

I have a real passion for people—offering hope, love, and support wherever I can. That passion has led me back to university, where I’m currently studying Applied Science in Animal Management, Behaviour, and Welfare. I also volunteer with Lorraine March at the Kent Wildlife Centre in Sheerness, which I thoroughly enjoy—even if my menopausal brain sometimes questions the studying!

My long-term dream is to open a dog rescue centre in Eastchurch, offering grooming, walking, and training services alongside. I’ve also recently been helping women who’ve experienced abuse get back on their feet, which has been deeply rewarding.

My heart is in community work, which is why I’m excited to be involved with Sheppey Pulse Network. The spirit of Sheppey is like no other, and I look forward to playing my part in building a stronger, more connected island and helping put Sheppey firmly on the map.

Hi I'm Kimberley

Highly dedicated volunteer

Kimberley Bowman, Mum and Nan, I’m proud to be part of Sheppey Pulse Network charity because I enjoy connecting with kind-hearted people and making a positive difference in our community. Through the charity, I have the opportunity to do what I love most—supporting individuals who are facing difficult situations, whatever they may be.

I also volunteer with an animal charity where I help reunite lost pets with their owners by scanning found animals—saving both time and stress to all parties involved. It’s incredibly rewarding to have helped reconnect several pets with their families.

My aim is to give people in our community a chance to ask for help with dignity—without fear of judgement or the need to beg. I’ve met some truly wonderful people through the animal charity and I’m now building more meaningful connections through Sheppey Pulse Network.

I believe in kindness, compassion, and listening without judgement. Whatever your situation, please feel free to reach out. If my health allows, I will always do my best to help in any way I can.
